1. Bucks County, PA

Bucks County, Pennsylvania offers many picture-perfect spots for foliage viewing. One of these is a quaint and historic town called Yardley, where you can find the picturesque Lake Afton. Lake Afton is the most scenic foliage spot in the area and it is in its loveliest in late October.

There's also Newton in Bucks County, where you can find Tyler State Park. The park has serene lakes, historic bridges, and splendid amber foliage, but the best spot for taking in the magic of autumn is Neshaminy Creek, which runs through the county in confluence with Delaware River.

Climb up Bowman's Hill Tower at Washington Crossing Historic Park and get a bird's eye view of the county's splendid autumnal spread. You can also bike along Delaware Canal State Park's scenic towpath, which is a tree-lined 60-mile towpath that offers amazing foliage scenery.

You can go on the Bucks County Covered Bridge Driving Tour where you can admire the county's lovely covered bridges as you drive through. Or perhaps get on a hot air balloon and view the miles of gorgeous landscapes from above.

2. Litchfield, CT

Litchfield is a pretty historic town in Connecticut that is an ideal home base for foliage spotters who want to experience western New England's autumn glory. You can go on a hike at Mount Tom State Park for a lovely view of the town's red, orange, and golden yellow foliage, or go for a scenic drive along the shores of Lake Waramaug.

Litchfield also has the White Memorial Conservation Center, where you can explore about 40 miles of trails, woods, a lake, ponds, and the Bantam River.

3. Green Mountain Byway, VT

Putting one of New England's most dazzling displays of fall colors is Green Mountain Byway in Vermont. It is an 11-mile route bisecting Vermont that is lined with birch, beech, and maple trees. Driving along the route from Waterbury to Stowe, which is another good spot for foliage peeping, you get to pass through two state forests as well as three state parks.

Make sure to see this byway onboard a minibus in NYC!

4. The Berkshires, MA

Berkshire County in Massachusetts is a popular escape for NYC dwellers who want to see world-class foliage views. There are narrow winding roads connecting mountain hamlets that are set against a backdrop of yellow, crimson, orange and burgundy forests. A great destination for a fall getaway is the small and affluent town of Lenox.

5. High Point State Park, Sussex, NJ

There are many places in New Jersey that are equally ideal when it comes to foliage spotting. High Point State Park in Sussex is only one of them. Home to the state's highest elevation at 1,803 feet, High Point State Park gives you dramatic views and miles of trails. You can see 80 miles or so of magnificent fall colors.
