For those who do not know yet, the Fleet Week New York for 2013 has been cancelled. But do not worry because there still places you can go to and activities that you can do in lieu of Flight Week. You can get a sprinter van rental in NYC and invite friends or family to come with you.

Fleet Week New York is an annual event that celebrates the sea services. It provides New Yorkers and Tri-State residents the opportunity to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, and to witness the latest capabilities of the country’s Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Team. Fleet Week includes military displays and demonstrations, as well as a public visit of participating ships.

However, due to a lack of Federal budget, this event will not push through this year. This does not mean, though, that we ought to stop honoring the U.S.’s maritime heritage. New York City has alternative activities in store for you, and we offer you a couple of suggestions. You can get a sprinter van rental in NYC ready and head over to any of these venues:

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is the perfect place to learn about our country’s maritime history. In here, you can see a collection of museum ships, including the USS Growler, the USS Intrepid and a Lockheed A-12 supersonic reconnaissance plane. The museum also houses the Space Shuttle Enterprise on its grounds.

This museum is the venue for most Fleet Week events.

General admission is $24, while guided tours can be availed for an additional $22 for adults and $16 for kids.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum can be found on the West Side Highway and 46th Street. For more information, visit the museum’s Web site at http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/.

BLDG 92

Here at BLDG 92, you can learn more about the history and the milestones of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. You can take a look at its current exhibits showing the past, the present and the future of the navy yard, as well as its rotating photo exhibits, among many others.

BLDG 92 is part of what used to be a shipbuilding. Everyone can get in here for free, but the place is open only from Wednesdays to Sundays, from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

BLDG 92 is located at the intersection of Flushing Avenue and Carlton in Brooklyn. Call 718 907-5992 or visit http://bldg92.org/ for more information.

If you are a small group going to BLDG 92 or the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, make sure to book a sprinter van rental in NYC for your transportation needs.
