Now on to the tips:

1. Research for the best deals well ahead of time

Most retailers in NYC would announce their deals, or you could go to TheBlackFriday.com to find out which stores are offering the best deals. They also tell you when they would open their Black Friday sales. For instance, Lord & Taylor is expected to give shoppers a 50% discount on women's fashion and 65% on both men's and kids' wear. Macy's on Herald's Square will be open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving, and you can get deep discounts as well. Discount retailer Century 21 will further bring their prices down on designer wear, while Bergdorf Goodman will open their doors at 8 am but you can arrive early and enjoy complimentary treats while waiting. Then Brookfield Place will open at 8 a.m. and give you the chance to score deals from the best fashion brands.

Knowing which stores open at what time and knowing which ones have the best deals on the things you want to buy will help you cut down on the list of stores that you need to visit. You can also plan an itinerary so that you can go from one store to another without wasting time.

2. Set a budget and stick to it

It is easy to get tempted to overspend when everything looks good and discounted. Do not make the mistake of just grabbing anything and everything you see when you get to a store. Create a list of people that you need to buy gifts for, and then set a budget for each of these people. As you find the perfect gift for them that is also within your budget, line up at the cash register and pay for that gift. Then cross them off the list.

3. Charge your phone

Having your phone with you will prove to be a good idea. You can easily locate family members by calling them and asking where they are. Or, calling somebody to ask about sizes and favorite colors. Also, some retailers will have online coupons that will give you more savings.

4. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle

Wear your most comfortable shoes and clothes when you go shopping. You would thank us for making you wear that sweatshirt and sneakers as you go from rack to rack trying to find the best deals.
