When it comes to 4th of July celebrations, people’s preferences is pretty much a mixed bag. There are people who would love to spend it at home with family. Others take their families and friends out to other places.

Williamsburg, VA

 

Williamsburg is a historic town that has seen the likes of Thomas Jefferson, George Mason, George Washington, and Patrick Henry as they started founding the nation. Independence Day celebrations in this small town start early in the morning and lasts late into the evening. Fireworks abound, while re-enactments are also commonplace. For instance, you can go to Shields Tavern and have breakfast with Thomas Jefferson. You can follow Jefferson to the state Capitol and watch him read the Declaration of Independence. There are also colonial games, firing of cannons, and live music. You can also visit the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, enjoy the fireworks onboard the Alliance, and then stay the night at the Williamsburg Lodge.`

 

Bristol, RI

 

Bristol is laying claim to the title of having the longest continuous July 4 celebration in the United States, having had activities, parades and celebrations every year since 1785. Bristol also takes July 4th celebrations seriously, so much so that they start early on June 14 where they have a Flag Day Ceremony, and then nightly events are held leading up to Independence Day eve. The actually Independence Day celebrations start on July 3, and the whole town of Bristol comes to life with a carnival, countless of rides, several contests and competitions, and live music performances. On the day itself, you can hear the guest speaker on American freedom, the July 4th parade, and processions.

 

Saratoga Springs, NY

 

Saratoga Springs celebrate Independence Day on both July 3 and 4. This place is consistently included in July 4 lists because of its awesome parade, which included dogs, floats, and fireworks. There are also several re-enactments, including chatting with costumed men and women about the Battle of Saratoga, or the towncrier reading the Declaration of Independence. There are also arts, crafts and historic games for the kids. You can also join the city tours that would tell you more about the town's history, live music, a citizenship ceremony, and a car show.

 

Sturbridge, MA

 

Come here an visit a living history museum, the Old Sturbridge Village. This is where you can see how life was in the 1830s. The people dress up in true 1830s fashion, and even have the same entertainment and activities that were popular back then. You can join the military march, the parade, and play old-school 19th century base ball games. You can also watch the citizenship ceremony, and hear the Village Singers as they belt out nationalistic songs.

 

Easton, PA

 

If you want to avoid the crowds but still want to celebrate Independence Day, you can go to Easton, PA and join the town as it celebrates this occasion a few days late. Easton was one of the economic and military bases during the war, and there are several noteworthy re-enactments that you should see. Easton's re-enactments tell you about how life was from the Revolutionary War, up to the Korean war. There are also several artists and artisans who would be sharing their talents, selling their crafts, and exhibiting all throughout town. You also get to attend the music festival just before settling in to watch the fireworks.
